Sharon Brookes

I am a committed and focused policy manager with 14 years experience in the specialist field of equality and diversity, particularly in the public sector.

I have worked on a range of projects over the years including the development of a benchmarking consultancy tool, designed and delivered equality impact assessment training, and had lead responsibility within national organisation for the scoping and implementation of their Single Equality Scheme.

I have worked the HR function of the public sector in Diversity management roles, influencing and supporting the integration into aspects of people management, including the review of recruitment practices, learning and development, approaches to monitoring, focus groups and internal consultation.

I have also lead on the benchmarking activity to enable organisations to receive recognition from Race for Opportunity, Opportunity Now and Employers Forum on Disability achieving Gold standard.

I have commissioned and managed large national projects in the further education sector such as provider support programmes to build their capacity, knowledge and understanding around their responsibilities for equality and diversity, under recent and new legislation.

I have a Masters Degree in the specialist area of Disability and I am a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personal and Development.

In summary my areas of expertise are in training design and delivery, benchmarking or auditing organisations and advising on the recent and current legislation changes and how they impact on the public sector.

Over the last 5 years I have worked on a range of assignments including:

  • Designing and Delivering Equality Impact Assessment Training in the NHS
  • Designing and co writing a training Programme
  • Working on a national basis to support colleges in their development and implementation of their Single Equality Scheme
  • Leading on the preparation and consultation of a public sector organisations Single Equality Scheme and Equality Impact Assessment guide
  • I have worked in the HR function and lead on the design of equality training and benchmarking the organisation against best practice standards
  • Worked locally and regionally and received an award for Innovative Diversity Management
