Diversity Director
Shahzad has been working in equality and diversity for the last seven years and specialises in the following key areas: training and development; community consultation and cohesion; understanding the challenges of managing diversity in organisations; understanding the impact of marketing on diverse audiences; developing strategies to assist with widening participation; improving academic and employment opportunities for individuals from minority and socially excluded groups; as well as developing strategies to assist with managing diversity in complex organisations.
Shahzad has gained a wealth of knowledge and a unique insight into equality and diversity through his involvement in more than 25 research projects for varied organisations, including local authorities, NHS trusts, financial institutions and housing associations. Centred on understanding the perceptions and realities of people from minority backgrounds working within both public and private sectors, this in-depth research has afforded Shahzad with a thorough understanding of the complex challenges faced by organisations. He draws on this experience when working on any equality and diversity related project.
Shahzad has organised and spoken at a number of regional events aimed at highlighting the importance of embracing diversity and delivered diversity awareness training within public sector organisations. He is passionate about helping organisations understand the business case for embracing diversity and assisting people from minority and socially excluded backgrounds to secure employment opportunities. He has recently worked on projects designed to achieve these aims for the Home Office, Learning Skills Council and HM Prison Service.
